Hey Bob, thanks for the encouragement. What IM are you doing? What sort of training plan(s) will you be following? I am still in the process of setting up my year starting in January. (I'm not eating bonbons or things like that, but I'm in maintenance mode physically and mentally until then.) This is going to be a real stretch for me but something I just HAVE to do..you know?
Hey, do you have a blog or semething I can follow? Love to hear what other folks are doing. Thanks!

TriMoot - I was looking at other triathletes that are signed up for IMCDA and ran across a comment you left on another IMCDA finishers blog on begineertriathlete.com
I too have signed up for my first IM along with 3 close friends.
Good luck in your training and keep your eye on the prize.

Press on towards the prize...

Yeah, you better say that you don't love technology as much as me... cuz you love tech a whole lot, and your phone is your newest love. But can it keep you warm at night? Well, I guess that light does put off quite a warm glow...

Thanks for the note today! I am so excited about IMFL. The ocean will definitely differ from the brown, murky lakes of Texas!
I have to agree with above, check out Infinit! It's what I use on the bike and it's great!

Nope - no solid foods and absolutely no stomach issues. Sometimes on the long bike training rides I will bring a single gel just for the variety.

When I use Infinit during the races I know I can drink as much water as I like without worrying about stomach problems.

And being an old worrier, I do worry about the health of my teeth in sucking down all that gatorade and other sugery foods for those many hours. With Infinit I take a slug of my concentrated drink and then follow up with water to wash it down and rinse out my mouth.

Al, I really appreciate your input on this as I have always struggled with the nutritional side of things. So you eat no solid foods at all? No GI issues going with all liquid? Hmm, I will have to give it a shot. Would love to pick your brain for more tips seeing as you are already an Ironman! Thanks!

Hey buddy - congratulations on a great race! I am glad to hear that things went so well.

You definitely have some logistical challenges with your nutrition choices. Have you considered going to something like Infinit? I use it exclusively and it works well for me. In a half IM race I use one concentrated three hour bottle and then drink water from the aid stations and am set. At an IM event I would have a second concentrated three hour bottle waiting for me at special needs.

Very cool, Paul. I like how you broke everything down. Good luck. I know Steve won't be there and you like to use him as motivation in a friendly competition, so how about this:

Set a PR and a tough time to beat. You know he's going to take a mental note of your time and hope to beat it in coming years.

I am glad to hear you are a member of EN. I joined earlier this year and am enjoying (kind of) the harder workouts.

See you on the roads buddy!
